It’s a brisk, cloudy afternoon in Houston, Texas, at one of my favorite places in the city, Menil Park. It’s a quiet green space in the center of all the hustle and bustle of Houston, surrounded by the best entertainment and nightlife. The Museum District, hip bars and unique shops.

Here is where my everyday adventure takes place… and the beginning of this blog.

The idea behind From My Hammock is to set up my Kammok hammock wherever I am in the world, take a picture of what I’m seeing and write about what I experience around me.

And I’m starting it now because two weeks from tomorrow I will be embarking on the biggest adventure I’ve ever taken in my 23-year-old life. I’m traveling to Vietnam.

It’s always been a dream of mine to embark on journeys to different parts of the world, learn about myself and be immersed in different cultures. But I didn’t just close my eyes and point to a random space on the map. The reason I am traveling to Vietnam is because my brother is marrying a beautiful Vietnamese girl he met at school, and I’m invited to be a part of their wedding ceremony and do a little sight seeing for three weeks. Who could say no to that?

So I have my passport, visa, plane ticket, travel vaccines, GoPro camera and hammock, of course…anything else? My mind is beginning to set into reality that this is really happening. I’ve never been to the other side of the world before, and I cannot wait to read what future words I will soon fill these blog posts with to document all of the adventures I have yet to embark on.

See you in Vietnam!
